Jailbird (SHOT '18)

$10.00 Sold Out

Continuing the tradition of a fun poker chip patch for every SHOT Show we attend, we present you with the Jailbird.

Jailbird gets its inspiration and design cues from the 1997 Nick Cage/John Cusack/John Malkovich movie CON AIR. The patch coloring, as well as the swooping bald eagle surrounded by barbed wire is from the Fairchild C-123 Provider aircraft that is featured throughout most of the film. The famous quote from the below deck fight scene was chosen for the patch, however we slightly modified it to fit the theme for this event. With that, comes the dead (gun) bunny head, instead of a ball chain, being carried away by the bald eagle.

As a side note- the C-123 Provider has certainly seen its fair share of Hollywood screen time. It has been used in many films over the years to include Air America, Die Hard 2, Good Morning Vietnam, Outbreak, and Tears of the Sun, to name just a few.

So, how in the world did this happen? While attending a dinner event during last year's trip to Las Vegas. We were discussing with a friend of ours how to combine the ideas of aircraft, movies, aspects of today's gun culture and Las Vegas into a single patch for the following year. It's worth mentioning that our friend just happens to have a career in law enforcement spanning over ten years. a certified firearms instructor, holds several armorer certificates, and is a rising star in the world of competitive pistol, 3-Gun, and precision rifle shooting. To say she knows and understands modern gun culture would be an understatement.

So, after more than a few drinks, and a lot of laughs, it seemed like a perfect idea. If you have seen the movie, then you will have a special appreciation for this one. We are now very happy to share this patch with all of you who can’t make it out to Vegas this year.
